Following a 25-minute rain delay, Washington used back-to-back singles and a deep ball to short to bring in its fourth run of the game. A single up the middle brought in two more runs for Washington to give it the 6-1 lead heading into the fourth inning.

The Nittany Lions threatened in the top of the fourth inning using three singles through the infield to load the bases with one out but a double play closed out the inning before Penn State could push a run across the plate.

Washington continued to press in the bottom of the fourth inning with a double to right field and a two-out single up the middle to take the comfortable 7-1 lead over Penn State.
