April 16, 2017 - UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; April 16, 2017 ââ'¬" The Penn State men's tennis team defeated Minnesota in the first match of a double-header this afternoon. The blue and white championed the Golden Gophers five matches to two this afternoon at the Sarni Tennis Center.
The Nittany Lions clinched the doubles point today against the No. 31 ranked Golden Gophers with three straight wins. Christos Antonopoulos (Athens, Greece) and senior David Kohan (Sydney, Australia) earned the first doubles win, going 6-2 over Minnesota pair Krstanovic/Levin. Senior pair Christian Lakoseljac (Richboro, Pa.) and Nika Dolidze (Tbilisi, Georgia) secured the doubles point today with a 7-5 win over Milicevic/Ogilvy. Constant De La Bassetiere (Reims, France) and Christian Lakoseljac (King City, Ontario, Canada) were also dominant with a 7-6 win over Golden Gopher's team Spec/Corwin.
Penn State put on a triumphant show this afternoon in singles matches, winning four matches to clinch the win. Ben Lieb (Newtown Square, Pa.) eased past Josip Krstanovic 6-0, 6-1 to bring in the first point. Senior Aws Laaribi (Rye, N.Y.) brought home another with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Eli Ogilvy. Freshman Christos Antonopoulos clinched the match for the Nittany Lions today, defeating Stefan Milicevic 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Constant De La Bassetiere also championed No. 74 Matic Spec 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 to add the final point in favor of Penn State this afternoon.
The Nittany Lions will host Monmouth N.J. at 4:00 p.m. to conclude today's double-header.
