University Park, Pa. -- As the final horn sounded on the 2017 women's college basketball season, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its 2017 All-America team, which included honorable mention honors for Penn State sophomore Teniya Page (Chicago, Ill.).
Page is just the second Lady Lion to earn WBCA All-America honors as a sophomore, with only Kelly Mazzante earning the award as a second-year player during the 2001-02 campaign. She is the ninth different Lady Lion -- 14th total selection -- to earn All-America honors from WBCA, joining a who's who list of student-athletes to don the blue and white. Most recently, Maggie Lucas garnered honorable mention honors during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.
Page moved herself into the conversation as one of the most prolific players in Penn State history as just a sophomore, moving past the 1,000-point mark for her career and pushing her named into a number of exclusive clubs.
With her Penn State Big Ten Tournament record 35 points vs. Minnesota on March 2, Page became just the fourth Lady Lion to reach the 1,000-point mark by the end of her sophomore season. That club now includes Page, Lucas, Mazzante and Susan Robinson. She ended the season with 1,091 career points and is tied for No. 32 on the career scoring charts.
Among other career rankings for Page, she is the 15th player to hit 100 3-pointers, one of 19 Penn Staters to ever pile up 1,000 points and 200 assists in a career and sits among the top free throw shooters at .777 to end the year ranked No. 18 all-time. Page's five career 30-point games rank No. 4 all-time at Penn State.
In 2016-17, the Chicago native became the first Lady Lion to make 200 field goals, 60 3-pointers and 100 free throws, while also handing out 100 assists, in a single season in program history.
Page became the ninth Lady Lion to score 600-plus points in a single season, reaching double-figures in 30-of-32 games played. Of her 30 games in double-digits, she registered 15 20-point games, including four 30-point efforts to finish the year with 618 points. That total ranks No. 4 on the single season sophomore charts and No. 9 on the all-class season charts. Her 19.9 points per game ranks No. 7 in a single season.
She also ranked among the top-25 on the single season charts in field goals made (20th, 209), 3-point field goals made (13th, 64), 3-point field goal percentage (4th, .441) and season free throws made (12th, 136) at the end of 2016-17.
Page was a first team All-Big Ten selection by the conference coaches and media members and was just the fourth sophomore in school history to earn a consensus selection to the All-B1G squad.
