Card Captures High Bar Title at Finland National Championships

JYVÄSKYLÄ, FINLAND -- Former Penn State men's gymnastics student-athlete Franz Card captured the high bar title at the Finnish National Championships in Jyväskylä, Finland this past weekend.

Card placed third in the all-around with a 72.450 behind Olympian Oskar Kirmes, who represented Finland in the 2016 games in Rio, while making the finals on the still rings, parallel bars and high bar. The Nashua, New Hampshire native placed fifth on the still rings and fourth on the parallel bars before capturing his first Finnish National title with a the first-place finish on the high bar with a 13.066.

The win on the high bar marks the first at the Finnish National Championships for Card as he also competed in both 2013 and 2015, earning the bronze medal on the parallel bars and high bar in 2015.

"It was a good start to me representing Finland," stated Card. "My goal in the future is to compete for the Finnish National Team internationally."

This past season, Card competed on both the parallel bars and high bar for the Blue and White and performed in the NCAA individual event finals on the high bar in his final collegiate outing.

Card will continue to live in Finland training with the Finnish National Team while also completing his masters in mechanical engineering at Aalto University in Espoo.
