UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Forty-five Penn State track & field student-athletes have qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round next week (May 25-27) at UK Outdoor Track in Lexington, Ky.

Five Nittany Lions have top-five performances in their respective events in the east region.

The Nittany Lion men qualified 19 student-athletes in 12 events. On the men's side, Isaiah Harris (800-meters) Michael Shuey (Javelin) and Malik Moffett (200-meter, long jump) hold top-five marks in their respective events heading into the NCAA East Preliminaries.

Along with the 12 individual events, the Nittany Lion men qualified in the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays.

The Nittany Lion women will be represented by 21 student-athletes in 15 events. On the women's side, Danae Rivers (800-meters) and Tori Gerlach (3,000-meter steeplechase) hold top-five marks in their respective events heading into the NCAA East Preliminaries.

Along with the 15 individual events, the Nittany Lion women qualified in the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays.

Four Nittany Lions have qualified in multiple events, as Malik Moffett qualified for both the 200-meters and long jump, David Lucas will compete in the discus, shot put and hammer throw while Obeng Marfo is slated to compete in the shot put and discus throw.

Madeline Holmberg will participate at the 2017 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. June 7-10 after finishing in the top-24 of the event. For combined events (Heptathlon and Decathlon), the top 24 declared student-athletes in each event based on their position on the national descending-order list are accepted directly into the Championships.

Penn State will also travel two alternates for the relay teams on the men's side. Anton Porter will travel as an alternate for the 4x100-meter relay while Sam Reiser will travel as an alternate for the 4x400-meter relay.

The top 12 athletes at the first round (from both the east and west regions) will advance to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which are slated for June 7-10, in Eugene, Oregon.
