Meet the Freshmen: Emma Thomson

July 5, 2017

With the 2017 women's soccer season slowly approaching, GoPSUsports.com is asking each member of the 2017 signing class a few questions in order to get to know them better. We are continuing the series this week with forward Emma Thomson.

A native of Park Ridge, Ill., Thomson attended Maine South High School and played club soccer for Sockers FC Chicago. While at Penn State, Thomson plans on majoring in sports communication/management.

GoPSU: A few weeks ago you were named the Gatorade State Girls Soccer Player of the Year for Illinois, what was your first thought when you received the news?

ET: I didn't believe it at first. It was always a huge goal of mine and also something my coach and I always talked about. I was stunned when it became a reality.

GoPSU: You have experience with the U.S. Women's National Team at the U-14, U-15, and U-17 levels, do you have a favorite memory or trip?

ET: My favorite memory was the camp after I committed to Penn State, I was able to room with Frankie Tagliaferri who had committed to Penn State two weeks before me. We got so close during that week at camp and that's when we decided we wanted to be roommates once our time comes.

GoPSU: How did you choose your major? And what are your career aspirations?

ET: I chose my major because I love sports more than anything. I have been surrounded by sports my entire life and I love everything about them. My dream job is to be an anchor on ESPN, or a manager for a professional sports team.

GoPSU: Did you know that you are not the first Emma Thomson to play soccer for the Penn State women's soccer team?

ET: I actually did know that. I had a chance to meet the original Emma Thomson two years ago at the Penn State soccer camp. It was super fun to talk to her and get to know her.

GoPSU: What is one thing the fans should know about Emma Thomson?

ET: One thing the fans should know about me is that I adore this school I now call home. I have so much pride in being a Nittany Lion and knowing every day I am here is another day to improve and achieve success in the classroom and on the field. I love this school!
