Sept. 15, 2017

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's golf team travels to Durham, N.C., to compete in the eighth annual Rod Myers Invitational from Sept. 16-17, hosted by Duke University at the Duke University Golf Club.

The 54-hole event will feature 36 holes of play on Saturday and an 18-hole final round on Sunday, with play beginning at 7:35 a.m. ET both days. The Bermuda grass course plays 7,154 yards and is a par-72.

Play will begin on holes one and 10 with the Nittany Lions owning the tee times from 8:22 a.m. through 9:00 a.m., all teeing off from number 10. Round two will begin immediately following round one on Saturday. Live scoring is available online.

"Duke's (tournament) presents a very different challenge than last week in the farmland setting of Minnesota," said Penn State head coach Greg Nye. "Bermuda rough and fairways, elevation changes, hot, humid weather is predicted, on a generally windless Carolina pine forest setting."

Penn State will be joined on the course by another elite field with host school Duke (24), Vanderbilt (3), Wake Forest (8), Oregon (10), East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Liberty, Louisville, Princeton, UC Davis and UNC Greensboro.

The Nittany Lions will be represented by four of the five participants from last week's Gopher Invitational. Senior Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.), juniors Charles Huntzinger (Duluth, Ga.), JD Hughes (Carlisle, Pa.), and Ryan Dornes (Lancaster, Pa. are all back for their second event of the season.

Joining the starting lineup is sophomore Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) who will be making his first appearance since last year's NCAA Championship in Sugar Grove, Ill.

A year ago, Penn State finished in sixth in the Rod Myers Invitational, led by Hughes who finished even-par for the tournament. All five student-athletes played in the Rod Myers Invitational in 2016.

"The Rod Myers is named in memory of one the great coaches and leaders responsible for bringing college golf to the stature and function we enjoy today," Nye said "A lifetime family friend of the Nyes makes this return to Duke special. I know our Nittany Lions very much appreciate the great work Duke does in ensuring this a high-quality event."
