UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State women's tennis team looks to open its fall slate this coming weekend as preseason training has come to an end. Head coach Chris Cagle's squad heads to Philadelphia for the Penn Invitational on Friday through Sunday, Sept. 22-24.
The preseason featured the blending of five new faces into the 11-person roster as the Nittany Lions look to balance experience and new players. The five new freshmen include Ines Milosevic (Burlington, Ontario), Gabby O'Gorman (Gunnedah, N.S. Wales, Australia), Olivia Rohrbacher (Sandusky, Ohio), Frederikke Svarre (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Hanna Wikberg (Stockholm, Sweden).
"After spending close to a month working to get better and competing against each other on a daily basis it will be nice to compete in tournament play over the next two weekends," said Cagle. "This weekend, members of our squad will be at the Penn Invitational, which always provides quality competition. (Assistant) Coach (Mike) Fenwick and I look forward to seeing our team in action and seeing where we are at in terms of live tournament play."
Heading to this weekend's tournament will be Liyin Xu (Chengdu, China), Hannah Kratky (Greenwich, Conn.), Svarre and Wikberg.
Penn State's next action after this coming weekend will be at the UNCW Invitational in Wilmington, N.C.
