WGolf to Open Fall Season at W&M Invitational

Williamsburg, Va.-The Penn State Women's Golf team departs today to compete in their first tournament of the fall season, the 2017 William and Mary Invitational, hosted by the College of William and Mary.

The two-day tournament begins Sunday, Sep. 10 with a 36-hole shotgun and concludes on Monday, Sep. 11 with an 18-hole shotgun. The start time for both days is 9 a.m.

The tournament will take place in Williamsburg, Virginia on the River course, a site brand new to the Nittany Lions this year. The par 72, 6,043-yard course is located and Kingsmill Resort and bordered by the James River. It has previously hosted players on both PGA and LPGA tours.

"I've got a veteran team, which is always exciting. I've got players with me that have been on the road and understand tournament golf," said Head Coach Denise St. Pierre, "They've got some experience behind them, so we have a great opportunity to start here and hopefully finish in the top three."

The veteran lineup for the tournament includes, sophomore Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) and juniors Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.), Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.), Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) and Kamerine Taylor (Dublin, Oh.).

Herr, Basso, Waller and Rogowicz competed in all 10 tournaments last season. Waller led the team in stroke average with an average round score of 74.72 last season. Rogowicz shot the best round last season with a career-low score of 68 (-4) in the opening round of the 2016 Nittany Lion Invitational. This will be the first road tournament for Taylor during her career at Penn State.

A total of 12 teams will be in attendance at the invitational. Penn State is the only team representing the Big Ten. The 11 other teams competing are; Cincinnati, College of Charleston, James Madison, Radford, Seton Hall, South Florida, UNCW, USC-Beaufort, Western Carolina, Xavier, and William & Mary.
