Penn State Women's Basketball
vs. Fordham
December 6, 2017

Coquese Washington | Penn State Head Coach

Q: Fordham had 21 offensive rebounds, which turned into a lot of points for them, what did it take form your team to change that especially in the fourth quarter?
CW: I thought the last four minutes of the game we did a much better job of securing defensive rebounds. The first three quarters they were a lot more aggressive, but that aggressiveness of going to the board we were able to get defensive rebounds to get going into transition which was key for us to be able to pull out the win.

Q: You were without the services of your leading rebounder tonight De'Janae Boykin, was there any reason for that?
CW: She is ill, so she is day-to-day. We hope that she will be able to play in the next game against St. Bonaventure, but once she is better she will be back with us.

Q: You have mentioned before Teniya Page's ability whether it is scoring, passing, and defensibility. Tonight it was scoring; so was that part of the game plan?
CW: Well it is always part of the game plan to get Teniya shots because she is an incredible shot maker. She is still feeling her way and kind of getting the rust off from not playing for so long. I think that it is tough when you don't play basketball for about four months and then jump back into it in the middle of the season. We are still getting used to getting her back with the team as well. I think tonight it finally came together in the fourth quarter. With that being said, we do not want to be a team that relies on Teniya for a heroic fourth quarter. It is nice to have but we certainly have to play better the first three quarters.

Q: Coach it seemed Jaylen Williams was struggling a little bit against her match up during the game, but can you talk about how key her blocks were at the end of the fourth game?
CW: Her blocks were really big. We started to come back and in our timeout we talked about how we needed to get stops. We had been playing zone and we got some big rebounds but with about 45 seconds to go, we were up three, and we opted to go man-to-man. Jaylen then came up with a huge block where we then got the ball transitioned down the court, and were able to make a play to get to the free-throw line. Her blocks were really big, momentum swinging plays for us.

Q: Coach you really shut them down from behind the 3-point line at the end of the game, what was the mindset behind that because they seemed to get a lot of open shots in the first half.
CW: We talked about some rotation things that we needed to do better. We also wanted to do a better job of contesting shots. In the first half, I felt like you said that they got too many wide-open looks. In the second half I felt like we did a better job of moving and contesting their three's in the zone.

Teniya Page | G | Junior

Q: Teniya, you took over in the fourth quarter with your team down by 10 points and making your last five shots. Can you walk us through how you did in the fourth quarter?
TP: There were shots in the first three quarters that I just didn't take. Coach told me that I needed to be more aggressive in the fourth quarter so that's what I did.

Amari Carter | G | Redshirt-Junior

Q: Amari, what was the mindset going into the fourth quarter? You guys were down and playing sluggish most of the night but was there anything that was said in the huddle going into the fourth?
AC: We were saying the same thing that we kept telling ourselves in the first three quarters and that was just coming out with the win in the end.
