UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State returned home for its only home dual meet of the spring semester and won 12 of 13 match-ups. Head coach Wes Glon's teams competed against the University of Pennsylvania, Yale, Duke, Columbia, Haverford and the University of North Carolina. Additionally, the women will be fenced Temple.
The men's team won five of six duals. The Nittany Lions beat Yale, 20-7; Penn, 17-10; Duke, 14-13; North Carolina, 17-10; and Haverford, 22-9.
Leading the men's team was junior Andrew Mackiewicz (Westwood, Mass.) and Karol Metryka (Linden, N.J.). Mackiewicz finished 11-1 and Metryka finished 9-4, both in the saber.
The women's team won all of its duals. The Nittany Lions won against Penn, 20-7; Yale, 19-8; Duke, 16-11; Columbia, 18-9; Haverford, 24-3; North Carolina, 21-6; and Temple, 16-11.
Leading the women was sophomore Barbara VanBenthuysen (Spring, Texas) and freshman Isabella Zuzulo (Newtown, Pa.). VanBenthuysen finished 13-3 in the epee and Zuzulo finished 15-1 in foil.
