Day One Recap: Clemson Invitational

- No. 22/23 Penn State wrapped up the opening day of competition at the 2018 Clemson Invitational hosted by Clemson University posting 15 top-10 finishes, including a first-place finish in the mile by Domenic Perretta.

In the 60-meters, Keianna Albury finished fifth in 7.42, after qualifying for the final with a time of 7.40 in the prelims. Freshmen Brooke-Lynn Williams and Audra Koopman also competed in the 60-meters running times of 7.68 and 7.77, respectively.

Xavier Smith finished fourth in the men's 60-meters crossing the line in a quick 6.74 seconds. Also competing in the 60-meters for Penn State were Anton Porter (6.95) and Luke Rarig (7.32).

Senior Quenee Dale grabbed a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 8.39 seconds, topping her mark of 8.40 set last week at the Nittany Lion Challenge. Maddie Holmberg (8.74) and Alyssa Yeboah-Kodie (9.19) also competed for the Blue & White.

Marissa Sheva took second-place in the mile running 4:52.26 in her first attempt at the distance this season. The men's mile saw Penn State finish 1-3-6-8 with Domenic Perretta leading the way kicking down the field on the final lap for the win in a personal-best time of 4:10.07. Following Perretta were Billy McDevitt (4:10.81), Owen Wing (4:12.97) and Jordan Makins (4:14.53).

Kiara Lester (56.53) and Deja Davis (57.82), as well as Kier Miner (49.07) and Terrance Laird (50.04), wrapped up competition in the 400-meters.

In the field, Obeng Marfo finished sixth, posting a mark of 14.59m (47'-10.50") in the women's shot put, while on the men's side five Nittany Lions took to the ring. Ben Peterson led the way with his mark of 17.39m (57'-0.75") finishing sixth while Jon Yohman (17.29m/56'-8.75"), Morgan Shigo (16.78m/55'-0.75"), David Lucas (15.48m/50'-9.50") and Luke Grodeska (15.08m/49'-5.75") brought home seventh, eighth, 12th and 14th-place finishes, respectively.

Hannah Mulhern led the vault crew with her T-4th-place finish with a clearance of 4.02m (13'-2.25") in the women's pole vault.

Holmberg stepped on the track once again to compete in the women's long jump, finishing competition with a best of 6.07m (19'-11") for sixth-place.

The Nittany Lions return to the track for day two of the Clemson Invitational tomorrow starting at 11 a.m. ET.
