CHICAGO - A pair of Penn State redshirt sophomore defenders will join the U.S. U-23 Women's National Team for a training camp, Jan. 4-11, at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, California. Nittany Lions Ellie Jean (Coventry, Conn.) and Kaleigh Riehl (Fairfax Station, Va.) are among the 26 players attending the week-long camp.
The upcoming training camp marks Jean's fourth appearance with the U.S. U-23 WNT and Riehl's fifth appearance with the U.S. U-23 WNT. The duo both took part in three training camps prior to the start of the 2017 Penn State women's soccer season and most recently, Riehl joined the U.S. U-23 WNT for a training camp in December 2017.
In 2017, Jean played in all 24 matches, which included 13 starts, and tallied four shot attempts.
During 2017, Riehl started all 24 contests on the Nittany Lion backline. Individually, Riehl led the team in minutes played (2,158) and she recorded her lone goal of the season in a 4-2 win at Arkansas on Aug. 25.
This past season, Riehl was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Second Team and she also received All-Big Ten Second Team honors.
