ROSEMONT, Ill. - Lauren Bridgens (Darnestown, Md.) has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday. This is the first Big Ten Freshman of the Week award for Bridgens.
This past weekend, then-No. 25 Penn State opened its 2018 slate with a 194.275-192.900 victory over then-No. 35 Eastern Michigan.
In her Penn State debut, Bridgens tied for the vault title (9.825), placed second on the uneven bars (9.800), finished fourth on the balance beam (9.700) and on the floor exercise (9.725). Bridgens closed out the day with a score of 39.050 in the all-around as she shared the all-around title with Briannah Tsang (Vancouver, British Columbia).
No. 17 Penn State opens Big Ten action the preseason-No. 9 Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday, Jan. 13. The meet is slated for a 4 p.m. start at Rec Hall.
