WGolf Finishes Round One at the UCF Challenge

Orlando, Fla.- The Penn State women's golf team completed round one of the UCF challenge today. The Nittany Lions 303 (plus-15) puts them in 12th place ahead of Vanderbilt, Old Dominion, UNC-Wilmington and College of Charleston.

Iowa State sits in first place after shooting 293 (plus-five) in the first round. East Carolina's Dorthea Forbrigd takes individual first with a score of three-under 69 in round one.

Junior Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) and Sophomore Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) lead the pack for the Nittany Lions, both tied for 16th place in the 90-player field. The ladies both shot two-over 74. Herr finished the back nine even to par with two birdies.

Junior Kamerine Taylor (Dublin, Ohio) rounded out the front nine one-under 34 and completed the round with a 77 (plus-five) to tie for the 50th spot.

Sophomore Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.) pulled in the only eagle for the team, her first of the season, on hole four. She finished the round tied for 62nd with a score of 78 (plus-six).

Juniors Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) and Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) are also tied with McLean for 62nd. Rogowicz finished the front nine only one-over 36, while Waller leads the team in birdies tallying three in round one.

Freshman Olivia Zambruno (Mt. Pleasant, Pa.) shot an 80 (plus-eight) in the first round and is tied for 76th.

The Nittany Lions add to the 197 count with 11 birdies and one eagle in round one. There is still time to make a pledge to Birdies For The Heart by visiting HERE.

Penn State tees off for round two tomorrow, Feb. 5, at 8:45 a.m. from holes 16 through 19 with Mississippi State and SMU. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
