Maineville, Ohio- The Penn State women's golf team made a huge comeback during the third round of the Big Ten Tournament shooting four-under 284, for a tournament score of 887 (plus-23). The lions improved 25 shots from the first round completing the tournament in eighth place overall.

"I was very proud of this team for coming back strong after a tough first round," commented Head Coach Denise St. Pierre, "It truly was a team effort with great rounds coming throughout our lineup led by an incredible round of 67 by Cara yesterday."

Michigan State pulled ahead of Maryland by five shots to take the Big Ten Championship with a three-round score of 859 (-5). Ohio State's Jaclyn Lee finished first in the 84-player field with a three-round score of nine-under 207.

Junior Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) finished the day under par shooting two-under 70. Her three-round score of 212 (-4) led her to finish tied for fourth landing a spot on the All Big Ten Team. Basso led the team with her career-low 67 (-5) in the second round.

Fellow junior Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) pushed Penn State up the board today shooting four-under 68 in the final round. Rogowicz tallied six birdies for the round. Her 68 (-4) marks her lowest round of the season and the second time in her career.

Junior Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) and sophomore Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) both ended the final round only one-over 73. Waller had three birdies in the third round and eight total in the tournament, while Herr had four in the third round and six total in the tournament.

Junior Kamerine Taylor (Dublin, Ohio) and sophomore Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.) completed the day back to back shooting 76 (plus-4) and 77 (plus-5) respectively. Taylor added three birdies to the team total.

"We never gave up and climbed five spots and also had Cara Basso earn All Big Ten honors finishing tied for fourth overall. This is quite the honor for Cara and Penn State," concluded St. Pierre.

With 46 birdies in the tournament, Penn State finishes their spring season with 129 birdies, combining with their fall total of 197 birdies for a 2017-2018 season total of 326 birdies. The ladies will continue to raise funds and awareness for women's heart health through their Birdies For The Heart campaign next year.
