NEW YORK - Penn State guard Tony Carr received an invitation to and will participate in the 2018 NBA Combine in Chicago May 16-20. Approximately 60 players are invited to the five-day event to showcase their talents for the league's 30 teams' general managers, coaches and scouts.
A Philadelphia, Pa., native, Carr helped lead the Nittany Lions to a 26-win season and the 2018 National Invitation Tournament (NIT) title. He became the first Penn State men's basketball sophomore to earn All-Big Ten honors and eclipse the 1,000-point mark. Carr scored in double figures in 60 of his 70 career games as a Nittany Lion and his confident presence lifted Penn State to three victories over top-15 teams in 2017-18.
"Playing in the NBA has been my dream and I'm completely focused on that goal," said Tony Carr, who announced his decision to enter the NBA Draft on April 2. "I'm grateful for the opportunities at the NBA Combine and the feedback I'll receive following the workouts and other sessions."
The Penn State leader in scoring and assists in each of the last two seasons, Carr topped the Big Ten Conference chart and ranked 19th nationally for total points with 725 in 2017-18. He finished his career in University Park with his name entrenched on several Nittany Lions' top-10 lists. Eleven records now bear his name, including the sophomore record for scoring and freshman record for assists.
Carr also made history as one of only six players in the Big Ten Conference Tournament to record multiple 25-point games as Penn State won two games to advance to the semifinals in 2018. He averaged 6.0 assists and 18.6 points per game during March while leading the Nittany Lions to a 7-1 record that month for the program's highest-ever winning percentage (87.5) in postseason play.
"This is the next step for Tony in his pursuit of his dream," said Penn State men's basketball coach Patrick Chambers. "We know he is prepared for this opportunity and we are excited to see what the future holds for him."
Carr signed with Octagon Basketball in April.
