Madison, Wis.- Penn State women's golfer junior Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) is tied for 43rd place after the first round at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Madison Regional at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin.

Basso, playing as an individual, stands in the 43rd spot with eight other players in the 96-player field. She shot a 74 (plus-2) in the first round, placing her fourth out of the six listed individuals in the regional.

She trails Toledo's Pinyada Kuvanun by one shot. Connie Jaffrey (Kansas State) and Erin Harper (Indiana) also placed above Basso shooting 71 (-1) and 70 (-2) respectively. Basso tops New Mexico's Pun Chanachai and Eastern Kentucky's Elsa Moberly on the leaderboard. She leads the two by three and eight shots.

Basso completed the front nine two-over par and rounded out the back nine even to par. She recorded four birdies for the round on holes two, 11, 15 and 16.

The 54-hole event will resume tomorrow, May 8, for round two. Cara Basso will tee off from hole 10 at 8:45 a.m. with Chanachai and Moberly. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
