UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's basketball coach Patrick Chambers today announced the addition of 6-4, 180-lb. guard Izaiah Brockington to the Nittany Lions' roster. Brockington, a transfer from St. Bonaventure, has signed a grant-in-aid and will enroll at Penn State and compete for the Nittany Lions starting in 2019-20.
"We're really excited to add Izaiah to our program, his athleticism and speed allows him to affect the game on both ends of the floor," said Chambers. "He excels in the open floor and has the versatility to defend multiple positions. A dynamic scorer, Izaiah has the ability to assert himself offensively in many different ways and I think that will only improve during his upcoming redshirt season."
The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native will have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2018-19 season to satisfy NCAA transfer requirements. Brockington played in all 34 games for St. Bonaventure this past season with five double-figure scoring games and single-game highs of five assists and four steals.
In a return to his hometown, Brockington scored 16 points in the game at St. Joseph's off three 3-pointers and an overall team-best six field goals. Earning a start against Maryland, he helped the Bonnies to a win over the Terps and then recorded a game-high 20 points vs. TCU. He was named to the Emerald Coast Classic All-Tournament team for his efforts in those two contests.
A first-team all-State pick and McDonald's All-America nominee, Brockington helped lead Archbishop Ryan to back-to-back Philadelphia Catholic League semifinals appearances and the PIAA Class 6A semifinals.
The top scorer for the Raiders at 18.7 points per game with a team-best 3.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game as a senior, he finished his career as the all-time leading scorer at Ryan with 1,292 points. Brockington played on the AAU circuit for We-R1 and Team Philly.
