Meet the Freshmen: Kim Dubs

Aug. 11, 2018

With the 2018 Penn State women's soccer season approaching, GoPSUsports.com is asking each member of the 2018 signing class a few questions in order to get to know them better. We are concluding the series with forward Kim Dubs.

A native of Zurich, Switzerland, Dubs attended Kunst- & Sportgymnasium Rämibühl and played club soccer for BSC Young Boys Switzerland. Dubs is currently enrolled in the Division of Undergraduate Studies.

GoPSU: What is it like playing soccer in Switzerland?

KD: In Switzerland you don't have school and your soccer team connected, so it's harder to find a school or working place that totally supports you in soccer. The level of play is not bad actually, most players have good technical and tactical skills, but we're definitely not in the same physical shape as players are in America. You can't go pro in Switzerland yet, that's why most players with high achievements transfer to another country.

GoPSU: What did you like most about Penn State so far?

KD: It's hard to pick just one thing. The people here are very friendly and open and the soccer program is very professional, everybody shows 100 percent commitment in every training.

GoPSU: You are an undeclared major, which classes are you taking this fall?

KD: I'm not sure, because I haven't scheduled my classes yet. But I'm interested in psychology and international and global studies. I'll see what happens, but I'm actually looking forward to it.

GoPSU: When did you know that you were going to attend Penn State?

KD: When I first received mail from Coach in February earlier this year I didn't realize how good this program was, since we don't know that much about college soccer back home. After some Skype calls I started to get really interested in it. At this point I was still choosing between different schools. I'm not very good at deciding, so I was postponing the decision for a long time even though deep down I actually knew that Penn State was the best fit for me. So, I made my final decision this may, very late compared to others.

GoPSU: What is one thing fans should know about Kim Dubs?

KD: I'm more of a spontaneous person than an organized person. I like concerts, openairs, riding through cities with my bike and jetties (at the lake).
