UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Big Ten Conference and the Penn State women's gymnastics program have announced that the historic Recreation Building (Rec Hall) on the University Park campus will host the 2019 Big Ten Women's Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, March 23.
This marks the fifth time Penn State has hosted the event, with the Nittany Lions finishing as the runner-up on three occasions in its home venue. Rec Hall has also served as the backdrop for the event in 1994, 2000, 2007 and 2014.
"We are thrilled to be hosting the 2019 Big Ten Championships," said Penn State women's gymnastics head coach Sarah Brown. "Our staff at Rec Hall does a great job running our competitions and I know this will be no exception. Our program, especially our seniors, are so excited for another opportunity to compete in Rec Hall during the 2019 season. We are honored to have the other teams from across the conference in Happy Valley once again."
Ten teams will descend upon Rec Hall to compete for the Big Ten crown, with the championship broken into two sessions. An afternoon session and an evening session will have the teams broken up, as four teams will participate in session one and six teams will compete in session two. The session order will be decided during the B1G Five Meets, which will be hosted in Toledo, Ohio as a part of the Elevate the Stage initiative at the end of February.
Ticket information and other information regarding the 2019 Big Ten Women's Gymnastics Championships will be available in the coming months.
Eight of the 10 Big Ten teams advanced to the NCAA Regional Championships in 2018, as Penn State joined Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska and Ohio State in the team competition. Michigan State and Rutgers were also represented with individual competitors in the NCAA postseason.
