UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's hockey freshman Rene Gangarosa has been named the College Hockey America Rookie of the Week for her performance Sept. 28-29.
The freshman blue-liner scored her first career goal in last Saturday's 4-2 win over fifth-ranked Colgate. Her goal was the first of the game for the Nittany Lions and tied the score 1-1 in the first period.
Gangarosa also did her part defensively in limiting Colgate's offense to just four non-empty-net goals in two games. She finished with two-game set with six blocked shots, second most on the Penn State roster.
The Rochester, N.Y. native is the first Nittany Lion defenseman to be named CHA Rookie of the Week since Nov. 7, 2016 when Katie McMillan won the award.
Penn State opens its home slate this weekend with a pair of non-conference games against Merrimack Oct. 5-6. Friday's game begins at 6 p.m. with Saturday's start set for 2 p.m.
