Seven Lions Compete at Bearcat Open

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; November 11, 2018 – Seven members of the Penn State Nittany Lions competed at the 2018 Bearcat Open in Binghamton, N.Y., today.  Two Nittany Lions came away as place-winners at the day-long event at Binghamton.  Wrestlers competed both attached an unattached at the open tournament.
 
Sophomore Luke Gardner (Pottsville, Pa.) and freshman Mason Manville (Lorton, Va.) led the Nittany Lions, each placing fourth at their respective weight classes.  Gardner went 4-2 with a major and a pin to finish fourth at 149.  Manville went 3-2 at 174, earning fourth place as well.  Sophomore Bo Pipher (Paonia, Colo.) went 2-2 with a pin at 157 as well.
 
Junior Dominic Giannangeli (Murrysville, Pa.) picked up a victory at 141 freshman James Hoeg (Mattituck, N.Y.) grabbed a win at 197. Freshman Austin Clabaugh (York Springs, Pa.) picked up a win at 133 while true freshman Jack Davis (Hanover Township, Pa.) wrestled unattached at 133 and went 2-2.
 
The Nittany Lions also dominated Kent State today in the season opening dual meet, rolling to a 52-3 win, while these Penn Staters competed at Binghamton.   Penn State will head to Philadelphia next weekend for the 2018 Keystone Classic at the University of Pennsylvania.  The team-scored tournament will be held in the historic Palestra and begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18.
