Penn State Men's Basketball
Virginia Tech Head Coach Buzz Williams
vs. Virginia Tech – November 27, 2018
Q: Buzz, what about their [Penn State] defense gave you guys trouble tonight?
A: I thought they did great. Congratulations to Coach [Chambers] and their team. Another one possession ACC vs. Big Ten Challenge game for the Hokies. I thought they were very well prepared in their plan, I thought they executed their plan very well, and we were not great in some of the things that we have been great at and that is a credit to them.
Q: Buzz, coming into the game did you expect a player like Myreon Jones to score as much as he did?
A: No and I mean that respectively.
Q: Buzz, Mike Watkins hasn't played since February. Was there any thought to maybe go after him maybe since his conditioning wasn't as high?
A: Great player. I don't know how many minutes he played, I think Coach probably did a good job in that regard, I'm not trying to coach his team. Obviously, the only clips we had on him were from last year. We were watching clips from a long time ago, 2017 probably, but he changes their team. Different type of skill sets than other guys at his position, and I think for sure he will help their team.
Q: Buzz, you limited Lamar Stevens to his lowest point total on the season. Did you think you did a good enough job on him to win tonight?
A: Excellent player. He is third in the country in field goal attempts. We played last week or 10 days ago, we played Carson Edwards, who is second. They are two completely different types of players, but I think he scores the ball and they get him the ball at all three levels. So, what your rotation if you double is probably different relative to where he catches it. I thought in some respects, we did do a good job on getting the ball out of his hands. Our rotation on the weak side led to some of their uncontested three's, which is kind of the next layer we need to improve at.
