Rivers Named Co-Big Ten Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. –
Penn State track & field junior Danae Rivers was named the Big Ten Indoor Co-Women's Track Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.

Rivers earns conference plaudits for the third time this season and the fifth time in her career after breaking her own school record in the women's mile with a time of 4:29.47 at the prestigious 112th Millrose Games at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York. The time marks the 10th-fastest collegiate time in history in the women's mile and is currently the leading time in the nation this season.

The Derby, Conn., native holds four Penn State school records, including two others set during the 2019 indoor season. Rivers ran the school record in the 800-meter run at the Penn State National Open on Jan. 26 and clocked in with a collegiate and school record time of 2:38.58 in the 1,000-meter run at the Nittany Lion Challenge on Jan. 12.

Penn State will host the Penn State Tune-Up on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Multi-Sport Facility and Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track starting at 11:30 a.m. The Big Ten Indoor Championships is the following weekend, Friday, Feb. 22 and Saturday, Feb. 23 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
