Rivers Named to The Bowerman 2019 Women’s Mid-Indoor Watch List

NEW ORLEANS – Penn State track & field's Danae Rivers was named to The Bowerman 2019 Women's Mid-Indoor Watch List as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Wednesday.

Rivers is the first female student-athlete in program history to be named to the watch list.

Rivers, a junior, has set two school records during the 2019 indoor season in the 800-meter run and the 1,000-meter run. She also set the collegiate record in the 1,000-meter run.

The Derby, Conn., native broke her own school record set last season in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.94 at the Penn State National Open on Jan. 26. The time is currently the No. 2 time in the nation. She set the school record and collegiate record in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:38.58 on Jan. 12.

Rivers has twice been named Big Ten Women's Track Athlete of the Week this season after her record-setting performances.

This is the fourth time in program history that a Penn State track & field student-athlete has been named to The Bowerman watch list. River joins David Lucas and Isaiah Harris from last season as well as Brannon Kidder in 2016.

Rivers is running the women's mile in the prestigious NYRR Millrose Games on Saturday, Feb. 9 in New York, New York.
