Track & Field to Split Squads at Four Locations

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State track & field program will split squads for the weekend, traveling to four different locations across the country. The distance runners will be at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., a majority of the team will be at the Tiger Paw Invite in Clemson, S.C., Dom Perretta will compete in the 800-meter run at Iowa State, and Danae Rivers will run the women's mile at the prestigious Millrose Games in New York.

HUSKY CLASSIC
The Husky Classic hosted by the University of Washington runs Feb. 8-9 at the Dempsey Indoor Track in Seattle, Wash. Action begins at 3:30 p.m. on Friday for the distance runners and 12:35 p.m. on Saturday.

TIGER PAW INVITE
The Tiger Paw Invite hosted by Clemson runs Feb. 8-9 at the Clemson University Indoor Track in Clemson, South Carolina. Action begins at 1:30 p.m. on Friday and at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

IOWA STATE CLASSIC
Dom Perretta will be the lone Nittany Lion competing at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa on Feb. 9. He will run the 800-meter race, starting at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.

MILLROSE GAMES
Danae Rivers will run the women's mile in the prestigious Millrose Games at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York, New York. The race will be at approximately 5:33 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9. The meet will be broadcast live nationally on NBC Sports from 4:30-6 p.m.

THE BOWERMAN WATCH LIST
Junior Danae Rivers was named to The Bowerman 2019 Women's Mid-Indoor Watch List as announced by the USTFCCCA on Wednesday. Rivers is the first female student-athlete in program history to be named to the watch list.

IN THE RANKINGS
In the third week of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Indoor National Rating Index, the men's team is ranked No. 20 and the women's team is No. 19.

RECORD BOOK PERFORMANCES
The Nittany Lions have not been short of record achievements so far in the 2019 indoor track & field season, etching eight performances in to the record books.

At the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup on Feb. 2, Morgan Shigo set a PR in the men's weight throw with a toss of 73-8.75 (22.47m) for the No. 2 mark in the record books.

At the Penn State National Open Jan. 25-26, Danae Rivers broke her own school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.94. Will Henderson set a PR in the men's long jump at 25-5.5 (7.76m) to tie the No. 4 distance in the program record books. Maddie Holmberg scored a personal-best 4219 points in the women's pentathlon for the second-best total in program history. Finally, the women's distance medley team of Marissa Sheva, Alexis Holmes, Victoria Tachinski and Rivers won with a time of 11:09.85 for the No. 3 time in program history.

Additionally, Henderson, Holmberg and Rivers have also set other PSU record book performances this indoor season. At the Simmons-Harvey Big Ten Invite on Jan. 19, Henderson set a school record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.65. Holmberg owns the No. 5 mark in school history in the women's long jump with a distance of 20-5 (6.22m), and Rivers set the Penn State school record and the collegiate record in the women's 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:38.58 on Jan. 12 at the Nittany Lion Challenge.

RETURNING ALL-AMERICANS
Penn State returns three All-Americans from the 2018 indoor track & field season. On the men's side, David Lucas is back for his junior year after capturing the gold medal in the weight throw. For the Penn State women, both Maddie Holmberg (pentathlon) and Danae Rivers (800-meter run) finished seventh in their respective events at last year's NCAA Championship.

HOME SWEET HOME
The Nittany Lions host four meets in the Multi-Sport Facility & Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track during the 2019 indoor season. The program has already hosted the Nittany Lion Challenge (Jan. 12), the Penn State National Open (Jan. 25-26) and the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup (Feb. 2) and will host one final meet in the Penn State Tune-Up on Feb. 16.
