Davis and Dornes Begin U.S. Open Sectional Play

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's golf rising senior Ryan Davis and former Nittany Lion Ryan Dornes play in their U.S. Open Sectionals Monday, June 3. Davis will play at Century Country Club & Old Oaks Club in Purchase, New York, with a 7:30 a.m. ET tee time on the Old Oaks Course and Dornes will travel to Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland.
 
A three-time All-Northeast Region selection by the Golf Coaches Association of American, Davis had Penn State's top finish in the 2019 Rutherford Intercollegiate (3rd) with his best finish, second, at the 2018 Kepler Intercollegiate with a team-best 2-under 210 (71-69-70). The Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, resident carded a career-low 66 in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate in October 2018.
 
Dornes, a four-year letterwinner, tied his career-low round of 68 in the 2018 Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. Three of his rounds in the 60s rank among Penn State's season top 11. From Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Dornes had back-to-back competitions as the top Nittany Lion finisher in 2018-19 with a season-best 6-under 210 (69-73-68) at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. He finished his career with an individual title at the 2016 Kingsmill Intercollegiate, four top-five finishes and placed in the top 10 eight times.
 
The U.S. Open sectional qualifier consists of 36 holes and with participants from each of the 12 sites will advance. More than 900 individuals are competing for spots in the 119th U.S. Open Championship at the Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California, June 10-16.
 
Former Nittany Lion Cole Miller, currently on the Mackenzie tour, qualified for the 2018 U.S. Open after finishing third in his sectional last summer.
