AUSTIN, Texas - Freshman Julia Paternain was the final Nittany Lion to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Saturday, June 8. Paternain represented the blue and white in the 5000m race on Saturday evening.

Competing in a talented group of runners, Julia Paternain battled a strong group of competitors and the Texas heat. Paternain remained with the pack of racers through the first 2200m. She finished the 5000m race with a time of 17:13.82 and finished 22nd.
Paternain ranks sixth all-time at Penn State in the women's 5000m race, a mark she set earlier this year at the Virginia Challenge.
Julia Paternain, Morgan Shigo, Mark Porter, Noah Swaby and Danae Rivers all represented the Nittany Lions at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Morgan Shigo earned first team All-American status by placing seventh in the men's hammer throw. Mark Porter (men's javelin) and Danae Rivers (women's 800m) both earned second team All-American status at this year's outdoor championships.
With the conclusion of the 2019 outdoor season, Penn State finished with three All-American honors, four Big Ten champions and 10 Big Ten medal winners.
