UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Senior Aaron Molloy and redshirt junior Pierre Reedy have been selected as team captains of the 2019 Penn State men's soccer team, as announced by head coach Jeff Cook Wednesday morning.
"Our 2019 preseason clearly demonstrated the depth and quality of our squad, and I have been greatly impressed by the leadership within the team," said head coach Jeff Cook. "Pierre and Aaron have been selected by their teammates to serve as co-captains, and I am very confident in their ability to be outstanding leaders for our program. They exemplify the Penn State student-athlete, demonstrating humility, hard work and team-first attitude."
The 2019 captaincy will be the second-straight year of leadership for Molloy while it is the first such honor for Reedy.
"I am super excited to be captain again this upcoming season," said Molloy. "The guys are extremely talented and, more importantly, great people who have put in a lot of work to be successful this fall."
"I'm excited for the opportunity to be a captain alongside such a great group of guys," said Reedy. "We hope to build upon the proud tradition of excellence that the program has experienced for years."
Molloy, a native of Dublin, Ireland, returns to University Park in 2019 for his final season with the Blue and White. The midfielder had two goals and two assists in 15 matches in 2018 and was named to the All-Big Ten second team and the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region third team.
Reedy returns to the pitch in 2019 after missing the previous two seasons due to injury. As a true freshman in 2016, the Kutztown, Pa., native was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. The midfielder is also a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and was a 2018-19 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
Both Molloy and Reedy earned spots on the 2019 Big Ten preseason honors list Tuesday.
Molloy, Reedy and the rest of the Nittany Lion squad will hit the pitch for the first time in 2019 on Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. when they welcome Stanford to Jeffrey Field.
