Men's Cross Country Wins Third Straight Meet at Buckeye Preview

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Penn State cross country team continued to find success on Saturday at the Buckeye Preview hosted by Ohio State. The Nittany Lions men's team claimed their third-straight win of the 2019 season and the women's program finished fourth on Saturday.

The men's program was up to the task of a bright and early start on Saturday morning at the Buckeye Preview. Another great team race paced the Nittany Lions to 53 team points and a first-place finish.

An early morning start did not hold the Nittany Lions back. Ben Bumgarner and a group of Nittany Lions ran with the lead pack through the first 1000m. Bumgarner sat in second place with a 3:04.18 split after the first 1000m. 

After 3000m, senior captain Billy McDevitt, Bumgarner, Andrew Sell and Isaac David all ran in the top 10. McDevitt ran 9:16.72 through the first 3000m to pace the Nittany Lions.

The Nittany Lions kept a strong pace which led to the first-place finish. Ben Bumgarner led the Nittany Lions with a seventh-place finish. Bumgarner completed the course in a time of 24:55.4. Senior captain Billy McDevitt turned in a top-10 finish, finishing ninth with a time of 24:59.0.

Andrew Sell (25:04.5), Isaac Davis (25:18.1) and Owen Wing (25:18.3) rounded out the top-five finishers for the Nittany Lions, finishing 12th, 17th and 18th respectively.

The women's cross country finished fourth at the Buckeye Preview with a team score of 87 points.

Senior captain Kathryn Munks followed up an individual win at the Spiked Shoe Invitational with another top-five finish on Saturday. Munks finished fourth at the Buckeye Preview with a time of 20:46.0. Alison Willingmyre also turned in a top-10 finish on Saturday. Willingmyre ran 21:13.6 to finish eighth.

Julia Paternain (21:36.1), Danae Rivers (21:39.3) and Julia Guerra (22:09.4) rounded out the top-five finishers for the Nittany Lions women's cross country team.

Penn State returns home on October 18 for the National Open.
