ALL-TIME VERSUS RPI
Penn State and RPI have a brief history in women's hockey which started last season when the two programs faced each other for the first time Nov. 16-17 in Troy, N.Y. The Nittany Lions had an undefeated weekend going 1-0-1 with several standout individual performances.
In the first game, the Nittany Lions scored the game's first goal on the power-play in the first period and didn't look back from there. PSU scored three times in the second period to put the game away and had four players record multi-point games, led by Izzy Heminger with three points (1G, 2A). Jenna Brenneman also had her first of four shutouts for the season.
In game two, PSU had the upper hand throughout, but Jessica Adolfsson's Swedish National Team teammate Lovisa Selander kept RPI in the game with 35 saves to force a 1-1 tie. Sophie Slattery picked up her third point of the weekend on an unassisted first-period score.
HEAR IT FROM COACH KAMPERSAL
On building from last weekend: "We got off to a slow start against Wisconsin, but we ended up playing decently that second and third period. That first period of Saturday nights' game was probably some of the best hockey that we've played since the new coaches have been coaching here."
On Chantal Burke's performance last weekend in goal: "I think she's just got to get experience. She played one game last year and then got thrown into that situation. I thought she did a very admirable job. That second period on Saturday she was spectacular, so I think she'll learn and have many positive moments going forward."
On expectations for the RPI series: "[We want] to maintain a consistent and urgent effort [and] keep trying to get the puck in the back of the net. Our line determinations are becoming a little clearer but there's still a lot of competition on a daily basis. It's just a matter of getting some offense going, getting a win, and feeling good about the work we've put in."
WHAT'S UP BURKE?
Junior goaltender Chantal Burke set new career highs in saves in both games in Wisconsin with 34 saves in the first game followed by 40 in the second. In game two, Burke held the Badgers scoreless by making 20 saves in the second period alone to keep the Nittany Lions within striking distance.
Her 40-save total was the most by a Penn State goalie since Hannah Ehresmann ('18) stopped 41 Feb. 11, 2017 in a 2-0 shutout of Lindenwood.
