WTEN Ends Day One at Northwestern Wildcat Invite

EVANSTON, Ill. – Penn State Women's Tennis wrapped up day one of the Northwestern Wildcat Invite on Friday as singles matchups got underway. The tournament will continue to run throughout the weekend and conclude on Sunday, Oct. 6. 
 
Singles
In the A draw, senior Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) was defeated in a 3-set match against Laura Rico of Miami (OH), 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Smith went on to lose to Fleur Eggink of Marquette. 
 
The B draw saw sophomore Olivia Ryan (Victoria, Australia) drop her matchup against Marquette's Milica Novakovic, 6-2, 6-2. Ryan later rebounded with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Milana Lysova of Miami (OH). Ryan will face Kentucky's Ana Tkachenko when play resumes.
 
In the E draw, junior Hanna Wikberg (Stockholm, Sweden) lost a 6-2, 6-4 match to Columbia's Julia Haynes. Wikberg will face Purdue's Seira Shimuzu in Saturday's action.
 
The G draw saw junior Olivia Rohrbacher (Sandusky, Ohio) drop her matchup against Princeton's Maia Sung, 7-5, 6-1. Rohrbacher bounced back with a 6-7, 6-3, 10-2 victory over Alex Sredojevic of Lewis. Rohrbacher will face Melani Davi of Miami (OH) in her next matchup.
 
Tomorrow's action will resume with the start of doubles competition, as Ryan/Rohrbacher will face Marquette's duo of Popovic/Foe while Smith/Wikberg square off against the Eastern Illinois tandem of Kavtadze/Bukraba-Ulanova.
