Women’s Team Strong as Fencers Open Dual Season in Philadelphia

The Penn State men's and women's fencing teams wrapped up their first dual meet of the season in Philadelphia, Pa. Both teams competed against Ohio State, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and NJIT. Additionally, the Penn State women's team had a series against Northwestern.

Head Coach Wes Glon earned his 250th career win when the women's team defeated Harvard this afternoon. Glon is the second most winningest coach in program history, behind Emmanuil Kaidanov's 867 (1983-2013) and just ahead of Mary Beth Alpin (who collected 249 as women's head coach from 1968-85). Glon now has 252 total victories as head coach of the men's and women's teams from 2014 to today.

The women's team won four of their six matches. The Nittany Lions beat Ohio State, 16-11; Northwestern, 15-12; Harvard, 17-10, and NJIT, 21-6. Penn State was nearly defeated by Yale, 14-13, and Princeton, 18-12.
