vs. Maryland Eastern Shore – November 5, 2019

Myles Dread | Guard | So.

Q: Obviously you making threes is not a surprise, but how nice is it to kind of in that first game back to kind of pick up where you left off?
A: You know, I want to say, this is the work that I put in this summer, you know, I was a good three-point shooter last year that's what I did, but I didn't want to stay at the same place, I want to be a better. And also, I really focused in and I felt good to show off that you know that worked in the summer paid off.

Q: Miles, you attempted six threes in only 16 minutes tonight. It's a pace for 15 every 40 minutes. I know that seems a little unsustainable but you have a benchmark you want to get to every game?
A: I shoot when I'm open. I shoot with my teammates tell me to shoot, and just try to stay aggressive at all times.

Q: Miles, there were times last year when that offense kind of got into a rut and a half court, how do you guys plan to prevent those ruts this year?
A: We play unselfishly. We play together. We take good shots, and we run our offense, and we try to run it to perfection.

Q: I think you were in a little bit of foul trouble in the first half when they started going zone. What were you seeing out there and how much does that help you when you come into the second half that you were able to kind of maybe take a step back and realize maybe different ways to attack what they were doing?
A: Yeah you know they did a really good job on defense trying to prevent threes. And so, I was trying to drive to the basket I got a little too aggressive and pushed off. So, and then the one another turnover I had was, you know, that was a mistake. So, they did a really good job on defense and sitting down and watching you know I saw the way that they were playing in the rotations they were making so I saw little gaps in those spaces that I could find and get open shots.

Q: Pat talked about a few minutes ago about Mike's impact on the floor when he's playing as best. Can you speak to him getting a couple of those early looks and gaining confidence out there after missing so much last season?
A: Mike loves the game of basketball. He loves us. And he just wants to play as hard as he can for us whether he's making shots or not rebounding or not blocking shots or not. He just wants to play as hard as he can for us, and he did that tonight, and I'm extremely proud of Mike.

Q: At the start of the second half, you guys came out really strong and specifically Lamar had seven points within the first four or five minutes of the first half. How important is that, for him to have good games consistently? Like how much of an energy driver is it when you know he has an alley oop dunk like that?
A: I mean it shut the gym down. I mean they were on a little bit of a run. And then that happened, and then it was just a domino effect, you know. He has such a passion for the game when he's yelling and screaming and just all over the place, it's contagious. Him and Jamari really pushed us that second half to get us started.

Q: How did some of the other guys' abilities to shoot the three pointer help you out as well?
A: Well guys have to respect other guys now. You know, Lamar didn't shoot as well as he wanted to tonight, but you know he stayed aggressive. I think he opened one that opened up the driving lanes for other people and opens up open shots for other guys. MJ made three tonight. So they had to respective his jump shot. Same thing was when guys are aggressive and shooting threes, it opens up threes for the other guys, so that's what I tried to do tonight. If I didn't shoot it I was trying to get somebody else an open shot.
