Burke Named CHA Goaltender of the Month For January

WINTHROP, Mass. – Penn State junior goaltender Chantal Burke's stellar season continues with another conference award after being named CHA Goaltender of the Month for January as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

The monthly honor is Burke's second of the season after she won the award for her play in December.

The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native has been a key part of Penn State's recent 6-2-2 stretch in the last ten games. In eight January starts, Burke posted a 1.11 goals-against average and a .958 save percentage on her way to a 4-2-2 record.

Burke leads the CHA in goals-against average (1.45) and save percentage (.943) for the 2019-20 season. Both of those marks also rank fourth best in the nation for the season.

Burke's two shutouts this month were especially notable as the first Jan. 3 versus New Hampshire was her fifth of the campaign, setting a new Penn State single season record for shutouts.

She added another shutout Jan. 24 at Syracuse in a 1-0 win for her sixth of the season which helped Penn State defeat the Orange for the second time in program history.

Burke's great play for the month certainly did not come without volume, as she made 20 or more saves in seven of her eight starts for the month. She had 29 and 27 saves in her shutout wins and a month-high 33 in a 3-2 win over Lindenwood Jan. 11.

Burke and the Nittany Lions will host league-leading Robert Morris this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8 at Pegula Ice Arena. Saturday's game features Superstar Day, which will include a free t-shirt giveaway for students, multiple in-game crafts and attractions, plus a free postgame skate with a ticket purchase.
