Men’s Golf Makes Southern Swing During Spring Break

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Penn State men's golf team headed south this weekend for the first of its two tournaments during the university's spring break week. The Nittany Lions stopped in Richmond for a round of 18 holes Friday on their way to the General Hackler Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Penn State will compete in the General Hackler Championship Monday-Tuesday, March 9-10.
 
The General Hackler Championship which will be played at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, a par-72, 7,233-yard layout designed by Robert Trent Jones. One of his masterpieces, the Dunks Golf and Beach Club features a world-renowned golf hole, No. 13, named "Waterloo" as adjacent Lake Singleton comes into play. "Waterloo" has received ever accolade and award in the world.
 
Taking on the challenge of "Waterloo" and the entire course will be Penn State's starting lineup of Alec Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.), Lukas Clark (Holland, Pa.), Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights, N.J.), Lou Olsakovsky (Upper St. Clair, Pa.) and Patrick Sheehan (Doylestown, Pa.).
 
"We appreciate Coach Garren's invitation to play the Hackler here at the Dunes," said Penn State men's golf coach Greg Nye. "It does not take long for the experienced eye to see the quality of this golf course and know why it has been the site of championship golf since the 1940s." 
 
The 15-team field at the General Hackler includes host Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, No. 25 ETSU, Kansas, Kent State, Liberty, No. 14 Louisville, North Florida, North Carolina, NC State, South Carolina, UNCG, No. 7 Wake Forest and Wisconsin in addition to Penn State.
 
The Nittany Lions will play 36 holes on Monday and a final round of 18 on Tuesday. Double-tee starts are set for 7:40 a.m. ET both days. The Nittany Lions tee off at 8:20 a.m. on No. 10.
