With the new year upon us, let's take a second to check in with incoming freshman field hockey player Caroline Myers! Caroline is a Hartland, Wis., native. The Arrowhead High School grad is a forward on this year's Nittany Lion squad for head coach Char Morett-Curtiss.
Q: Welcome to Happy Valley! What were the main reasons you chose Penn State and this program?
I chose Penn State not only for its outstanding academics but for the competitive athletics, welcoming atmosphere, and genuine people it has.
Q: With the disruption that occurred nationally from the NCAA's reaction to a virus, how have you been able to interact with your new Nittany Lion teammates before coming to Penn State this Summer/Fall?
As a first-year student, getting to know my new teammates has been difficult, but I take advantage of what I can do. Being isolated does help make my bonds stronger with the new incoming freshman.
Q: What are you most excited about doing when you get on campus as an official member of the Penn State family?
I am most excited to get into field hockey and play with my new team. I can't wait to compete against other universities and be successful.
Q: What do you plan on majoring in and why?
I plan on majoring in Health Policy & Administration. I chose this because I am interested in the medical field and business, so this major is the right mix of both.
Q: How do you plan on approaching the transition to compete athletically at this level?
I plan to work as hard as possible so that I can be at a high level as soon as possible. I think the harder I work, the more opportunities and success I will have.
Q: If there is one thing you absolutely must bring with you from home to Penn State, what is it?
For me, it is pictures. I have printed pictures and polaroids of my family and friends, and every day I can look at them and think I always have these people supporting me and that I am here for a reason.
Q: What is the one thing you are going to miss most about not being home?
I am going to miss being with my friends and on the lake every day. I have never been away from home for so long, so it is hard to get used to a new environment.
