Meet David Evans, Nittany Lion Freshman Wrestler!

With the new year upon us, let's take a second to check in with incoming freshman wrestler David Evans! Evans is a Tunkhannock, Pa., graduate and is heading into his first season wtih head coach Cael Sanderson and the Nittany Lion wrestlers.

Q: Welcome to Happy Valley! What were the main reasons you chose Penn State and this program?

Deciding to come to Pen State was an overly exciting decision. It is a place that will help me excel in both the classroom and on the wrestling mat. I've seen countless student athletes achieve the same goals I am chasing, and I know Penn State is the school to help me do the same.

Q: With the disruption that occurred nationally from the NCAA's reaction to a virus, how have you been able to interact with your new Nittany Lion teammates before coming to Penn State this Summer/Fall?

At this time, it is really difficult to really interact with any of the teammates in person. Just trying to grow closer with the team in any way possible. Mostly through social media.

Q: What are you most excited about doing when you get on campus as an official member of the Penn State family?

I am most excited about meeting new people and building those lifelong friendships. Also, meeting all my teammates and getting to wrestle is a big excitement.

Q: What do you plan on majoring in and why?

I plan on majoring in Orthopedic Medicine. My junior year of high school I broke my arm and my doctors got me back to the wrestling season as fast as possible. I later want to be able to help athletes and others get back to their daily lives as healthy as possible.

Q: How do you plan on approaching the transition to compete athletically at this level?

I am mentally ready for the challenge ahead, but I have a lot of work to do before i am where i want to be athletically. I plan to give my all to the sport and do all I can to accomplish the goals ahead. I will give it my all in all aspects of the sport.

Q: If there is one thing you absolutely must bring with you from home to Penn State, what is it?

It would have to be my speaker. Music is a big part of my life and is a great motivator.

Q: What is the one thing you are going to miss most about not being home?

I am most going to miss seeing my friends and family back home. They have been my 'reason why' to keep chasing my dreams. A lot of support behind me back in Tunkhannock.
