With the new year upon us, let's take a second to check in with incoming freshman wrestler Austin Boone! Boone is a native of Ada, Mich. The Lowell High School graduate and is heading into his first season wtih head coach Cael Sanderson and the Nittany Lion wrestlers.
Q: Welcome to Happy Valley! What were the main reasons you chose Penn State and this program?
A good education, good wrestling, and a good team atmosphere!
Q: With the disruption that occurred nationally from the NCAA's reaction to a virus, how have you been able to interact with your new Nittany Lion teammates prior to coming to Penn State this Summer/Fall?
I had my college visit in December so that helped in at least getting to see some of the guys in person.
Q: What are you most excited about doing when you get on campus as an official member of the Penn State family?
For me, I'm just ready and excited to start training for the season.
Q: What do you plan on majoring in and why?
Nutrition because I plan on being a dentist and that major has most of the classes I need to get into dental school.
Q: How do you plan on approaching the transition to competing athletically at this level?
I just need to keep training, keep listening to my coaches and work to get better.
Q: If there is one thing you absolutely must bring with you from home to Penn State, what is it?
I'd say my wrestling shoes!
Q: What is the one thing you are going to miss most about not being home?
The way I look at it, I plan on coming back later so getting emotional about leaving is just a distraction!
