Hi New Lion! A Quick Q&A with Field Hockey Freshman Drew Taylor

With the new year upon us, let's take a second to check in with incoming freshman field hockey player Drew Taylor! Drew is a Coatesville, Pa., native.  The Coatesville High School grad is a forward on this year's Nittany Lion squad for head coach Char Morett-Curtiss.

Q: Welcome to Happy Valley! What were the main reasons you chose Penn State and this program?

I chose Penn State because it just felt like home. I love the atmosphere here and I love the amazing group of girls that I will be on a team with.

Q: With the disruption that occurred nationally from the NCAA's reaction to a virus, how have you been able to interact with your new Nittany Lion teammates prior to coming to Penn State this Summer/Fall?

We interact through accountability groups that keep us on track with our workouts and we also hold zoom calls to update each other of how everything is going.

Q: What are you most excited about doing when you get on campus as an official member of the Penn State family?

I am most excited about just being altogether and becoming closer with my team and being able to train with our coaches.

Q: What do you plan on majoring in and why?

As of right now I am undecided, but I would like to explore the Biobehavioral Heath major.

Q: How do you plan on approaching the transition to competing athletically at this level?

I plan to always give 110% and just be a coachable player so I can improve overall.

Q: If there is one thing you absolutely must bring with you from home to Penn State, what is it?

I absolutely must have my weighted blanket with me because I can't sleep at night without it.

Q: What is the one thing you are going to miss most about not being home?

I am going to miss not being with my friends and family and I am especially going to miss my job working at the nursing home.
