Heising, Gangarosa, Promersberger Named 2020-21 Captains

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's hockey team has announced its captains for the 2020-21 season, led by senior Natalie Heising as captain and juniors Rene Gangarosa and Anna Promersberger as alternates.

Heising (Wazata, Minn.) becomes the seventh student-athlete to be named captain in program history after serving as an alternate captain the past two seasons. One of the top offensive players to ever play for the Nittany Lions, Heising ranks second all-time with 47 career goals and fourth with 77 career points.

Heising has led Penn State in goal scoring in each of her first three seasons, including setting a single-season program record with 19 as a freshman in 2017-18. She also tops the program record books with 18 power-play goals and 11 game-winning goals.

Gangarosa (Rochester, N.Y.) emerged as one of the best blue liners in College Hockey America last season as she scored 18 points, topping the single-season defender charts for the Nittany Lions. Her two-way play was critical for the Nittany Lions often playing extended minutes against opposing top forward units while also adding production to the Nittany Lions' power play and penalty kill groups.

Gangarosa sits fifth all-time among defenders with 24 points and holds the single-season high plus-minus rating at +8, a mark set in her freshman season.

Promersberger (Fargo, N.D.) has been a key two-way player for Penn State the past two seasons scoring 11 points in 67 games. In the 2020 CHA Tournament, she scored a critical game-tying goal, the first of four unanswered scores, in a first round victory over RIT.

Promersberger has earned a spot on the CHA All-Academic Team twice and was an Academic All-Big Ten Team honoree in her first year of eligibility.
