UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Freshman student-athlete Henry Zimmerman spoke about his first few weeks in Happy Valley as a part of our Freshman Focus series. Henry comes to Penn State from New Albany, Ohio.
Henry attended New Albany High School prior to Happy Valley. He qualified for nationals four times each in weight throw, hammer throw and discus. He earned all-state honors three times.
Q: What were the main reasons you chose Penn State and this program?
A: I chose Penn State because of it's state of the art academics and track & field program. I believe it's the best place for me to develop as a student and an athlete.
Q: What has been something you've most enjoyed about your first few weeks in Happy Valley?
A: The best part of my time on campus has been getting to know my teammates and learning the campus.
Q: What do you plan on majoring in and why?
A: I am undecided but plan on going into digital arts and media design to pursue a career in industrial design or product design.
Q: How have the first few weeks of classes been going?
A: Very good, I like my professors and my Morgan Academic Center academic advisors have helped with my time management and organization
Q: What are some of your other hobbies outside of track?
A: I like to fish, paint and watch Netflix.
Q: Who inspired you most as an athlete and why?
A: My Dad has inspired me most as an athlete. My father was a Division I athlete, and he and my mom have always pushed me to be the best athlete and man I could be.
Q: When did you know you wanted to throw in college?
A: I knew I wanted to throw in college since eighth grade.
Q: Favorite pro sports team and favorite sport to watch outside of track and why?
A: My favorite sports team is probably the Texans because I am a big JJ Watt fan.
