Women's Golf Travels to Georgia for Pinetree Women's Collegiate

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Penn State women's golf team travels to Georgia to compete in the Pinetree Women's Collegiate hosted by Mercer University and Kennesaw State at the Pinetree Country Club on Monday and Tuesday. This marks Penn State's first-ever trip to the Pinetree.

Monday will feature a continuous 36-hole session beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start while Tuesday's final round will also feature an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The Nittany Lions will be paired with Mercer and Florida State to begin play on Monday.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Tough conditions on the opening day at the Briar's Creek Invitational last week put Penn State behind the eight ball early, but the Nittany Lions battled back with a strong final round to move up on the field.
  • The Nittany Lions were one of just six teams in red figures in the final round posting a 1-under, 287, shaving 30 strokes off their opening round total and 17 strokes off their second round score.
  • The Nittany Lions were led by junior Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio) who carded a season-low 4-under, 68, in the final round tying her second lowest score as a Nittany Lion. Willis finished tied for 20th position moving up 23 spots on the day with six birdies and a pair of bogeys in her round.
  • Sophomore Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) tied her career-low round with a 3-under, 69, in the final round moving up 21 spots and into a tie for 34th for the championship. Delavallade had five birdies with only one bogey on the day.

THE FIELD

  • Penn State is joined by one other Big Ten school in the 10 team field as Rutgers will also make the trip south.
  • Along with the two host schools in Mercer and Kennesaw State, Chattanooga, Delaware, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Florida State and Memphis round out the field.
  • The Seminoles are the highest ranked team entering the week at No. 5 in the latest golfstat.com rankings while the Nittany Lions enter the tournament No. 68.
  • Mercer and Kennesaw State come into the tournament at No 64 and No. 74, respectively, while East Carolina and East Tennessee State at No. 69 and 94 round out the members of the field inside the top-100.

THE TEAM

  • Penn State's lineup remains consistent from the previous two tournaments this season as Willis and Delavallade will be joined by freshman Victoria Tip-Aucha (Vienna, Va.), sophomore Isha Dhruva (Katy, Tx.) as well as senior Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.). Junior Taylor Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) will compete as an individual for the second time this season

NEXT UP

  • The Nittany Lions will have a three-week break from competition before heading to the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington on April 17-18 in their final prep before the Big Ten Championships the following weekend in Ohio.
