Wheeler Named to Big Ten All-Defensive Team as Trio of Nittany Lions Earn Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Penn State men's basketball senior guard Jamari Wheeler was named to the Big Ten All-Defensive Team for the second-straight year and senior forward John Harrar and junior guard Myreon Jones were selected as honorable mention All-Big Ten picks by the league's media members. Postseason honors for the 2020-21 season were announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon (March 9).
 
From Live Oak, Florida, Wheeler finished the 2020-21 regular season as the Big Ten leader in steals per game (1.8) in conference-only games and tied for the lead with that average in all games. The relentless defender was a 2020 All-Defensive Team pick as a junior. He had 35 of his 42 steals in Big Ten Conference play and recorded an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2:1 overall this season.
 
Penn State's leading scorer, junior guard Myreon Jones was named to an honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference selection for the second time by the league's media members. Jones has scored in double figures in 21 games this season and possesses a 15.5 points-per-game average. He ranks eighth in the league in scoring in all games and fourth in 3-point field goals made with 2.43 per game. His 1.3 steals per game average is good for seventh in the Big Ten.
 
In conference games, the Birmingham, Alabama, product averaged 16.2 points per contest for a No. 8 ranking and was third in 3-point field goal percentage at 41.0.
 
Harrar earned his first All-Big Ten Conference accolade as an honorable mention selection. He averaged a double-double with 10.1 points and 10.0 rebounds over 13 games in January and February and had five double-doubles in 2020-21. He tied his career best with 14 rebounds three times this season as a byproduct of his 10 double-figure rebounding games. From Wallingford, Pennsylvania, Harrar currently ranks 11th nationally with 3.78 offensive rebounds per game and is in the top 60 nationally at 56th with his 8.5 rebounds per game average.
 
A member of the program's Leadership Council, Harrar was selected as Penn State's recipient for Big Ten Conference's men's basketball Sportsmanship Award for the second-straight season.

The Nittany Lions tied for 10th in the Big Ten standings and take the No. 11 seed into first-round action Wednesday, March 10. Penn State plays No. 14 seed Nebraska in the second game of the evening with an approximate tip time of 9 p.m.
