Nittany Lions Host No. 19 Ohio State in Saturday Showdown

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State men's tennis (5-6, 6-5 B1G) will wrap up its three-match home stand with a contest against the 19th-ranked Buckeyes (13-2, 10-1 B1G) on Saturday, April 3 at 1 p.m.

Penn State continued its hot streak at home with sweeps over Iowa and Nebraska to improve to 4-0 in the Indoor Tennis Center. 

Against Iowa, the Nittany Lions claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3. Tim Ruetzel and Charl Morgan tied the No. 6 doubles pair in the nation with a score of 4-4 in an unfinished match. In singles, Christian Lakoseljac defeated Hawkeyes' Kareem Allaf in straight sets and Miko Eala picked up his sixth win in Big Ten play as he defeated Oliver Okonkwo 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, extending Penn State's lead to 3-0. Christos Antonopoulos clinched the match for the Nittany Lions in a third set win over Joe Tyler. Bora Sengul, Alp Sentay and Ruetzel picked up singles wins of their own. 

Penn State followed up Friday's win with a 4-0 sweep over Nebraska two days later. In doubles, Sam Bossem and Miko Eala clinched the point at No. 3 to remain undefeated (4-0) as a pair. In singles, wins from Lakoseljac, Eala and Sengul led the Nittany Lions to a comfortable victory. Lakoseljac finished the weekend undefeated in singles and doubles, while Eala's singles record improved to 7-4 and Sengul earned his third-straight win at No. 2. 

INSIDE THE BUCKEYES

After suffering its first conference loss at Michigan on March 13, Ohio State has won four consecutive matches, including road wins at Nebraska and Iowa last weekend. 

The Buckeyes boast a talented singles lineup with three ranked players in the latest ITA rankings — John McNally (35), Cannon Kingsley (46) and Robert Cash (104). James Trotter and Justin Boulais check in and No. 58 in doubles, followed by Cash and McNally at No. 68. Kingsley is riding a 20-match singles win streak, while Trotter and Boulais hold a 5-2 doubles record this season. 

The Nittany Lions look to avenge an earlier season loss to the Buckeyes in Columbus.
