CARMEL, Ind. – The Penn State men's golf team is in third place and senior Lou Olsakovsky is tied for third place after the first day at the 2021 Big Ten Men's Golf Championships at Crooked Stick Golf Club. The Nittany Lions turned in a team score of 305 (17-over), playing 8-over on their first nine after starting on hole No. 10.
Olsakovsky (Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania) carded a 1-over 73 to tie for third place after the first round of play. Olsakovsky made three birdies in the round and was 2-under after his first nine holes.
Graduate students Alec Bard (New Hartford, New York) and Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights, New Jersey) are tied for 16th place with 4-over 76 scores. Bard made a birdie on his final hole of the first day. Bard and Davis combined for 23 par scores with Bard compiling 12 and Davis 11.
Sophomore Patrick Sheehan (Doylestown, Pennsylvania) started his round by making two birdies and is tied for 44th with an 80 (8-over). Senior James McHugh (Rye, New York) is tied for 51st with an 81 (9-over).
No. 11 Illinois and No. 38 Iowa are tied for first place with scores of 300 (12-over). John Driscoll of Northwestern posted a 1-under 71 to top the leaderboard.
