UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's golf incoming freshmen Morgan Lofland and Jake Griffin have showcased their talents this summer with Lofland winning the Pennsylvania Junior Boys' Championship and Griffin qualifying for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Pinehurst.
Lofland used a clutch playoff performance to win the Pennsylvania Junior Boys' Championship at Hershey Country Club last week. The Paoli, Pa. native made par on the second playoff hole to take the victory at the Pennsylvania Golf Association event after 36 holes of stroke play left Lofland and his fellow leader, Karl Frisk, tied atop the leaderboard at 5-under. Lofland, along with Frisk, finished with the lowest 36-hole score in the event since 2014 at 137 (-5).
Griffin shot a 72 at Lakewood Country Club in Rockville, Md. on June 28 to earn one of the site's seven qualifying spots for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. Qualifiers were held at 61 sites across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The championship will be played at the Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst, N.C. from July 19-24.
Lofland and Griffin inked National Letters of Intent in November 2020 and will enroll and compete at Penn State beginning in fall 2021.
