Fredericksburg, VA – Penn State men's rugby travels to University of Mary Washington Saturday, 11 September to take on Mothers Rugby in the inaugural SHEEHY Cup. On a solemn day for all and as we take time to reflect on the day and what it means for us as a nation, we are thankful that we have the opportunity to play today.
After a great pre-season in Happy Valley that culminated in a hotly contested Blue v. White game last Saturday, the team are ready and excited to play against someone who aren't their teammates this weekend.
The two teams last met in the Fall of 2019 where the Lions came out victors 22-0 over a very good UMW team, a team that had won the D1AA National Championship the previous season. The Nittany Lions return to the field with a great mix of experience and youth this year, starting four 1st year players this weekend, it will be a great opportunity for those players to learn from the experience around them.
Co-Captain Campbell Halloran feels, "the Team has put in the hard work during pre-season and are ready to be back on the pitch representing Penn State this weekend."
Dalton echoed Campbell's statement, "The energy for this first game will show all the hard work we put in during the preseason. Everyone is excited to be back on the pitch competing, and of course the boys will be buzzing!"
There has been a long break from competition and we are certainly excited to be back!
