POSTGAME QUOTES: Villanova Student-Athletes

Penn State Football
Villanova Student-Athlete Postgame Press Conference
vs. Villanova – September 25, 2021

Daniel Smith | QB | Gr.

Q: Was the crowd noise as loud as you thought?
A: The leaf blowers were louder.

Q: What'd you learn about your offense today?
A: We were tested by probably one of the best defenses in the country, on any level. But I thought we ran the ball pretty well for what we were given in the box, especially late going out there and proving that we can move the ball down the field and score. Even before that, proving that we can move the ball down the field and forgetting those errors and maybe try to not turn the ball over when we're moving the ball early in the third quarter. It's probably a different game when first drive we got the ball we had a third and short and connected, a call-back from the penalty, and I think now if we convert that into a first down it's probably a much different game offensively for us. We just got to look forward and see what JMU's going to give us.

Q: Were there any surprises in terms of what you were able to accomplish?
A: "We think that we are the number one rushing defense in the country, in FCS I should say, but that is how we play. Just confidence. I mean we have had that confidence. This is the same starting six that we have had for two years and we have always been stout in the run. Our defense is built to stop the run and that is the number one thing that we emphasize."

Q: What was the experience like in Beaver Stadium?
A: "I mean I have been here before. I am from Pennsylvania so I came to a game before and then in high school I came to the spring game. So I had been here before, but playing on the field did not feel different. It did not feel any different. The field is 120 yards and it is 53-and-a-half feet wide and there are 11 players. I am more focused on what is going on on the field but it was definitely an awesome experience, playing in front of that many people. And I just love playing football, so it was an awesome experience. I just wish we would have gotten the win."
